The Cenote Nicte Ha

Cenote Nicte Ha is located approximately 53km south of Playa del Carmen in the Dos Ojos Ecopark. A short gravel road leads us past the park’s reception all the way to the cenote.

Water Plants

The name of the cenote translates to “Water Plants” and comes from the fact that many water lilies are found in the open area, which seems to particularly attract photographers.

This cenote offers a maximum diving depth of 8.5 meters (28 ft). Diving along the guide line, we repeatedly pass stalactites and stalagmites that correspond to the usual characteristics of the Dos Ojos cave system.

Lighting Conditions

Due to the lighting conditions and the numerous water lilies, this cenote is ideally suited for photographers. However, the fine sediment on the grotto floor leaves no room for misbehavior.

Planning Your Trip

Nicte Ha lies in Dos Ojos Park, about 53 km south of Playa del Carmen; Tak be Ha and Tak be Luum are located in the same park. The site is rated advanced even though the maximum depth is only 8.5 meters (28 ft), because fine sediment on the floor requires excellent buoyancy. In the open area you will see many water lilies, while the cavern shows stalactites and stalagmites. A gravel road leads past the park reception to the site, and the light conditions make Nicte Ha especially well suited for underwater photographers.
